From the hiking starting point at the Wochenbrunner Alm mountain hut, there are three options for the approach: via trail/path 825 towards the Gruttenhütte mountain hut, via the Gaudeamushütte mountain hut and the Klammlweg trail (812/822 and 813/824) towards the Gruttenhütte, or via the Gaudeamushütte towards Ellmauer Tor rock saddle (812). Approach time: approx. 1.5 hours
To the east of the Gruttenhütte, follow the sign “Ellmauer Tor über Jubiläumssteig” until you reach the entrance to the Jubiläumssteig trail. Passing through unique countryside, the Jubiläumssteig trail is a very exposed, challenging mountain path that is largely secured with steel ropes and a number of stepping aids/ladders. Enjoy a close-up experience of the rocky landscapes through the fascinating “Wildes Schloss” (Wild Castle), as this area is known according to legend thanks to its many turrets, peaks, hollows and balconies. Savour the views both downwards and across the surrounding area.
Descent: Head downhill on path 812 from Ellmauer Tor in the direction of the Gaudeamushütte and continue to the Wochenbrunner Alm.
The Jubiläumssteig trail can be walked in both directions.
Surefootedness and above all a good head for heights are essential!
Recommended: HELMET, as well as a climbing harness and via ferrata set for inexperienced climbers.
A securing rope should also be used for children.
