Creative mind full of ideas
Claudia Speiser has done what many dream of: The resident of Niederndorf has made her hobby her profession. She conjures up special and unique bags in all sizes and shapes from colorful fabrics and vegan leather.
By chance to her own business
The path to her own small business “Be La Flo” (by the way named after the initials of her children's names) was a fortunate coincidence: Claudia Speiser has always enjoyed sewing and relied on tried and tested “learning by doing.” “I don't have formal training as a seamstress; I taught myself the craft through YouTube videos and a lot of practice,” she shares.
In 2018, she finally made her first handbag – and was promptly delighted with many positive reactions. “I can still remember that first lilac bag clearly,” she reveals. She even recalls being approached on the street about her handbag, she smiles back at the memory. Through word of mouth, further interested parties became aware of her products and wished for a handbag crafted by Claudia Speiser.
As more and more inquiries came in, Claudia registered a business and laid the foundation for “Be La Flo – Bags and more.” Nowadays, customers can find inspiration on her website www.belaflo.at, on social media, and WhatsApp: There, Claudia regularly showcases new models and ideas. They can be ordered directly from her.
Favorite bags made to measure
Claudia Speiser usually creates her models according to customer requests in her sewing room at home. There are practical reasons for this: The creative mother of three can flexibly allocate time for sewing and – whenever her commitments allow – work in her small sewing room.
Claudia also enjoys being a guest at craft and art markets with her bags. She prepares various models for these events. Even during the Christmas season, she always has classic everyday bags and small gift items, such as cosmetic bags, in stock. Otherwise, production is done on order and according to the individual preferences of the customers. Everything is made, from diaper bags to shopping bags, from shoulder bags to stylish pouches. There is even a self-sewn doctor's bag for children in the range. Claudia Speiser also plans to create larger bags, such as travel bags, in the future.
Sewing machine instead of yoga
She usually spends her evenings in the sewing room. “Sewing is for me a deceleration from everyday life, a short escape,” she recounts. “Instead of doing yoga, I sit down at the sewing machine.” The organic cotton fabrics for her products are sourced – whenever possible – from small fabric stores in the area. Regionality, holding together, and mutual support are important to her.

When it comes to materials, Claudia Speiser also likes to use felt or leather. “But only vegan leather made from plant fibers,” she says. Time and again, she also breathes new life into old, already used fabrics – such as denim. This way, she creates sustainable favorite pieces with her bags that her customers love to wear for many years.
The “Be La Flo” models are colorful and vibrant, featuring original patterns or embroidery, and can of course also be personalized. Her training as a color consultant helps her particularly well in combining colors. Inspiration for new designs comes in the process: Ideas arise with the different fabrics.

So far, Claudia's customers have mostly come from the surrounding area. However, the diligent bag designer has also shipped beyond the borders of Tyrol and is pleased to have buyers from Germany.
