THE ART OF SOLO Manuel Randi (I) + Omid Bahadori (IRN)

KlangFarben proudly presents: Matthias Bartolomey S O L O

Matthias Bartolomey's new solo programme is all about duality. It centres on selected movements from the famous six suites for solo cello by J.S. Bach, as well as new, groove- and rock-accentuated compositions by Matthias Bartolomey. The result is a musical dialogue that spans 300 years. Inspired by Bach's timeless motifs and rhythms, Bartolomey develops his own tonal language, which he weaves around the movements of the baroque suites with both care and sharp contrasts. Bach's music remains untouched by this and can be heard in its pure form. Bartolomey's own compositions function as commentaries from our time, as a play of colours and reflections. The duality of the programme manifests itself not least in the choice of instruments.

Matthias Bartolomey will alternate between two cellos. The first instrument is a violoncello by David Tecchler and was built in Rome in 1727 - it represents the music of Bach. The second cello is a faithful copy of the latter, which was built by Philip Bonhoeffer in 2021 and represents the music of Bartolomeo.

Catherine Graindorge is a Belgian violinist, violist, composer and actress. She has performed with various international artists such as Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Debbie Harry and Mark Lannegan (Jeffrey Lee Pierce Project), Chris Eckman (Dirtmusic), Hugo Race (ex-member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), Pascal Humbert and Bertand Cantat (Détroit), John Parish, Andrea Schroeder... played. She also plays in the Belgian band Nile On waX, composes for theatre, dance and cinema. Her second solo album Eldorado, produced by John Parish, was released on 1 October 2021 on Glitterbeat Tak:Til. On 9 September 2022 she released an EP with Iggy Pop, "The Dictator", on Glitterbeat Records
