Wintry and easy to walk, through one of Austria’s most beautiful places to the Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte, which is open all year round.
The Kaisertal Valley is not only beautifully framed by the surrounding mountains, but also enjoys a favourable climate and is well protected from the wind, making it a popular destination even in winter. The Premium Winter Hiking Trail is marked with a pink snowflake on the yellow hiking signs. After climbing the 285 steps of the Kaiseraufstieg, the trail leads past the Zottenhof, Veitenhof, Pfandlkapelle, Pfandlhof and BergKhof to a fork in the path. Keep left here to reach the Antoniuskapelle. From there, you can enjoy beautiful views of the Gamskogel opposite and further into the Kaisertal Valley towards the Totenkirchl. The route then continues uphill towards the Ritzaualm and on to the Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte, both of which are open all year round and offer food and accommodation. The return follows the same route, with several traditional inns along the way. The trail runs along the southern slopes of the Zahmer Kaiser and therefore often enjoys the warming winter sun.If you prefer a shorter version, you can finish the hike at Antoniuskapelle. You can find all information about the shorter route here.
