LUNGS
By Duncan Macmillan
Who wants a child today? The earth is overpopulated, raw materials are running out, the economy is collapsing. One objection follows another as a young couple at the checkout counter at Ikea question having a baby, which they both want nonetheless. But shouldn't good, responsible people who buy Fairtrade, separate garbage, and watch movies in the original with subtitles refrain from contributing to the demise of the planet by multiplying: or does the exact opposite apply? And how does having a child change one's life?
In a cleverly interlaced dialogue that sometimes skips entire years between two replicas, Duncan Macmillan lightly negotiates the great questions of existence in LUNGS from the cradle to the grave. The scale of emotions ranges from panic to euphoria to disillusionment, as almost everyone knows from their own experience.
