The music of the quartet is characterized by the very personal signature of the two main composers of the band: Rupert Kirchmair and Florian Bramböck. The latter has received several awards as a composer of contemporary music and for his compositions in the field of jazz. Also through his work in various formations such as the "Vienna Art Orchestra" or "Saxofour" he is known as a virtuoso and extremely creative saxophonist far beyond the borders of Austria.
Rupert Kirchmair has developed a no less individual approach to jazz through his collaboration with artists such as Riccardo Moreno (" Riccardo Moreno Band") or Loomis Green (" Jan Delay"). The line-up is completed by one of the most sought-after rhythm groups in Western Austria: Florian Baumgartner (Flo's Jazz Casino) on drums and Johannes Sigl on bass.
Besides their own compositions, the quartet deals with the adaptation of music that is normally not associated with jazz. The compositions of Gustav Mahler or Josef Haydn, for example, are not played but serve as a starting point for their own improvisations. The KIRCHMAIR QUARTETT also adopts repertoire from the newer rock and pop music, or standards of the "Great American Songbook" in this way and thus gives this music completely new and unexpected facets. Also rhythmically the band goes its own way. In addition to the usual four and three bars, the band often plays in odd time signatures, so-called "Odd Meters". The result is a band that never forgets the joy of playing together, despite all the stylistic splits and complex rhythmic concepts, and that lets music emerge spontaneously and intuitively.
