Hautzinger Regenorchester XVIII (A, D, USA)
There are probably only a few people in free music with whom Franz Hautzinger has not played. Always beyond genre conventions, the Austrian trumpeter has developed a repertoire over some 40 years that is characterised by close listening, joy of playing and versatile sound structures.
There is no doubt that a change is underway. While the experimental improvisation scene at the turn of the millennium was entirely focused on the reduction of dynamics in order to paradoxically achieve an expansion of the sound spectrum from this reductionism, it is now rediscovering the groove. Franz Hautzinger is a good example of this development. Joining him on stage is Issue XVII of his Rain Orchestra, featuring Christian Fennesz (guitar, sound electronics), Martin Siewert (guitar, sound electronics), Angus Thomas (electric bass) and Lukas König (drums).
A musically exciting evening between free improvisation and electronic sounds, between rock, jazz and ambient - named Orage by Franz Hautzinger, in German: Gewitter.
"It is a beautiful spectacle to watch such adventurers on their crusade to explore the limits of their instrument. It sounds awake and threatening. Rain and sunshine at the same time. Lunapark in hell." jazzenzo, Tim Sprangers
