Georg Ringsgwandl & Band
Born in Bad Reichenhall in 1948, Georg Ringsgwandl studied medicine in Würzburg and Kiel, worked at a psychiatric clinic in Napa, California, was active in research and later as a cardiologist - and these last years, moreover, in parallel as a musician. Since 1986 he has released twelve albums and occasionally toured with his band between Bern, Vienna and Berlin. In 1993 he gave up his profession as a doctor and wrote his first musical theater piece, "Die Tankstelle der Verdammten" ("The Gas Station of the Damned"), which premiered at the Schauspiel Köln and was replayed in many places. In addition to his concert performances, he has worked time and again as an author and director, among others at the Münchner Kammerspiele.
With a sure eye for the essential and with unrestrained joy in unmasking and tragicomic details, but also full of compassion from the hardships of his fellow man, Ringsgwandl tells and sings and dances himself this year or every year again as an indispensable cultural giant through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. For this reason, he has also been awarded the Salzburg Bull, the Bavarian Cabaret Prize (in the music category) and the German Cabaret Prize, among others. He modestly describes himself as a "multi-dilettante".
