UNRUH (CH-2022 / Cyril Schäublin)
Another time is possible! At least this was the case at the beginning of industrial watch production around 1877, when authorities, manufacturers and watch models each operated with their own time divisions, including the associated schedules, values and world views. In this proto-Taylorist society, where civil servants and gendarmes keep watch on the right time and set the pace for the factory and the community, workers form an anarchic union with links to the international labor movement. There Josephine, who watches over the assembly of the balance wheel, the heart of the mechanical watch, and the Russian cartographer Pyotr Kropotkin, who is currently staying in the Jura, meet. Inspired by anarchist ideas, they demand the liberation of time, setting solidarity and pacifism against market laws and nationalism.
After his debut Dene wos guet geit, Cyril Schäublin has further developed his style: With the greatest compositional care, he combines the elaborate long shots and extreme close-ups that are typical of him, which celebrate craftsmanship, with a clear political stance and, through alienation and irony, makes it clear how topical and universal his subject matter is.
