Tiroler Festspiele - Franui: Geistervariationen (UA)

Ghost Variations is the title of Robert Schumann's last composition, which he wrote before being admitted to a mental asylum. The title was invented by posterity, as Schumann claimed to his wife Clara that the ghosts of Schubert and Mendelssohn had dictated the theme to him in a dream.

The music band Franui now plays its own variations of the theme and hallucinates with its unique instruments, summoning not only the previously mentioned spirits but also the ghosts of numerous other composers. During the musical séance, the musicians once again collaborate with a visual artist, who will transform the ghost variations into a fascinating natural theater.
