Opening-Concert

In hardly any work of music history can pianist Claire Huangci express her skills as wonderfully and multifaceted as in Camille Saint-Saëns' 2nd Piano Concerto in G minor op. 22. It took Camille Saint-Saëns a whole seventeen days to compose his second piano concerto in the spring of 1868. It was written for the great Russian pianist Anton Rubinstein, who wanted to present himself as a conductor to his Parisian audience with this work, which he called a "warhorse." This is what happened in the first performance on May 13, 1868 in the Salle Pleyel in Paris with none other than the composer at the piano.

On the podium of the orchestra will be conductor Karsten Januschke, who already conducted the New Year's Concert of the 2019/2020 Winter Festival in 2020. Hailing from Schleswig-Holstein, he assisted Christian Thielemann and Kirill Petrenko early on, and in recent years has conducted numerous productions at the Volksoper in Vienna, the Frankfurt Opera or the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.
