HARVEST THANKSGIVING - Grieg, Mendelssohn Bartholdy
GRIEG (1843-1907) Concert Overture In Autumn op. 11
Norwegian dances op.35
FELIX MENDELSSOHN BARTHOLDY (1809-1847)
Symphony No. 3 "Scottish
Orchestra of the Tyrolean Festival Erl
Conductor: James Hendry
As a season of palpable natural forces as well as of hunting and harvesting, Edvard Grieg depicts autumn in his vital concert overture. Like his "Norwegian Dances," the work bears witness to the composer's intense involvement with the folk music of his homeland. The "foggy atmosphere" of Scotland had inspired Felix Mendelssohn to write his "Scottish Symphony". In it, elegant melodies meet exuberance and drama to finally merge into a sublime apotheosis. The evening will be conducted by the British conductor James Hendry, who has been Principal Conductor of the Hanover State Opera since 2020/21.
