1. Tyrolean museum of wood - Wildschönau
The relationship between people and wood is the focus of this unique museum in Auffach, Wildschönau. Wood carver and sculptor Hubert Salcher has transformed his idyllic birth house into a museum dedicated to the raw material of wood. More than 3,000 exhibits are on display in 59 wooden rooms. The old workshop has everything from an old, still functional table radio to handmade leather shoes with wooden soles, and the display gives the impression that the master craftsman has simply popped out of the room for a moment. The narrow kitchen next door still has an original churn that was used to make butter. The wood-fired oven from the 17th century is still functional and in use. Captivating rare carvings and wooden miniatures can be found everywhere. Curiosities such as wooden nails and a wood boring beetle, the oldest folksong harp in Tyrol and a bra carved from wood are all worth a visit.
