Long-distance walks on Tyrol’s Eagle Trail

On the wings of an eagle

The elongated lake shimmers turquoise-blue. An island in the middle of Tyrol’s green natural landscape. Meadows and forests. Only the unwooded, rocky grey peaks interrupt the blue-green idyll of the skies, nature and lake. The narrow path continues on. Views over Tyrol’s high Alpine world. Closer to the skies than the valley. And then it appears. Surrounded by Alpine meadows. The Brentenjochalm. A wooden lodge and floral paradise. Small pots of balcony flowers can be seen standing and hanging everywhere. But it is the delicious scent which attracts visitors even more. It is a Saturday. Kiachltag (doughnut day). The culinary highlight of the 3rd state of Tyrol’s Eagle Trail.

Twice through Kufsteinerland

The Eagle Trail runs from east to west through the high Alpine mountains and across Tyrol. The name of the long-distance hiking trail is based on its silhouette which resembles the outstretched wings of an eagle. 33 stages. 413 km. 31,000 m of altitude. A long-distance trail with legendary views. Mountain experiences. Nature discoveries. Diverse and surprising. Two of the routes lead into the Kufsteinerland mountains. One from the Hintersteinersee lake to Kufstein and then on from the fortress town to the Gasthof Schlossblick.

Floating above the mountains

The third stage of the Eagle Trail from the Hintersteinersee lake to Kufstein fascinates with wide-ranging views of the Tyrolean mountains and culinary treats, in particular the doughnuts (Kiachln) served at the Brentenjochalm on a Saturday. The stage is rounded off by a cosy highlight with great views. Then float back down into the valley on the Kaiserlift, savouring the views. The fourth stage of the Eagle Trail leads from Kufstein to the west. The ascent begins in Unterlangkampfen. Breath-taking views of the Inntal valley and icy adventures in the ice and dripstone caves at around 1,500m. Long-distance walking through Kufsteinerland.
