Ellmauer Tor, Ellmau (2,001 m)
Heading from the Griesner Alm, the approach (988 m) takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.
The Eggersteig trail (partly secured with steel ropes) leads from the north through the Steinerne Rinne cirque to the imposing Ellmauer Tor rock saddle. Enjoy a close-up experience of the powerful rock faces of the Fleischbank and Predigtstuhl mountains, taking in the fantastic view from the Ellmauer Tor as you look south over the main ridge of the Alps.
Tip: additional ascent to the Hintere Goinger Halt mountain at 2,192 m.
Alternative descent: head south through the Ellmauer Tor and across the delightful countryside on the Jubiläumssteig trail to reach the Gruttenhütte mountain hut. You can also head through the Kübelkar cirque to the Gaudeamushütte mountain hut, continuing on to the Wochenbrunner Alm and into the valley on the way to Ellmau.
Surefootedness and above all a good head for heights are essential!
Recommended: HELMET, as well as a climbing harness and via ferrata set for inexperienced climbers.
A securing rope should also be used for children.

- Heading from Wörgl, Kufstein or St. Johann on the B178 road, follow the exit to Söll and take the turnoff for the centre of Söll when at the roundabout. Drive straight through the village and bear right before the “Giovanni” pizzeria. Follow the road until you reach the hiking starting point at the Franzlhof leisure centre, where a sufficient amount of parking spaces will be available.
