Kufstein Fortress has been popular with visitors for 800 years. While in the first few centuries they were often hostile visitors, these days Kufstein Fortress is happy to be a popular excursion destination for locals and guests. 90 m above Kufstein, the landmark thrones over the city with meters-thick walls, cannons and towers.

A combination of history and nature

Between the walls you will find the so-called "Annabatterie", a wonderfully arranged garden with trees, and a large plant and herb garden. More than 100 different herbs, for the kitchen and medicine, are lovingly planted, cared for and harvested. Umbels, St. John's wort and lilies are just three of the more than 100 species. Every plant species in the Annabatterie garden is described on a small board. These boards give an overview of what the respective plant can be used for, which is particularly interesting for the medicinal plants. CAUTION: not everything should be eaten, there are also toxic plants that grow there and are hard to detect.

Tours:

  • The herb garden is freely accessible with a fortress entry ticket, and a brochure with a list and description of the plants is available on request.
