Herbert & Schnipsi 'Best Of - Time Travel with Potholes'
Bavaria's most famous comedian couple goes on tour with their most beautiful numbers from 35 years together on stage! 1982 until today. An enormous time span. Hanns Meilhamer and Claudia Schlenger alias "Herbert und Schnipsi" have been on stage together for more than 35 years. The perfect time to finally dare a best-of program. Not an easy undertaking, since eight stage programs wanted to be compressed to 120 minutes. But the selection was made and so a unique mixture was created, quasi the essence of 35 stage years "Herbert and Schnipsi". This makes it all the clearer which exceptional position Meilhamer/Schlenger hold in the Bavarian scene, in which they have shaped their own genre from the very beginning: the mixture of grandiosely played, pointed sketches, intelligent and lovingly composed songs and the direct exchange with the audience. This mix doesn't fit into any drawer. The two see themselves less as cabaret artists (especially not as political ones), but rather as comedians and folk singers in the tradition of e.g. Karl Valentins and Liesl Karlstadt. They succeed again and again in combining the absurd with the everyday. They never rise above others, but laugh about themselves and with them the audience, which often recognizes itself in the stage characters. One experiences two thoroughbred artists in their element. Here the joy of playing and the desire for imperfection become the leitmotif. Where "Herbert and Schnipsi" is written on it, there is never anything quite perfect, quite straight, quite harmonious. There are two people on stage who present themselves with all their weaknesses, who like each other, but not permanently. The title "Zeitreise mit Schlaglöern" also goes well with this. The audience feels like visiting old friends - which perhaps explains the long-lasting love and loyalty of the Herbert & Schnipsi fans. The Best-Of program now unites the great classics from the 90s and 2000s, with success numbers from the early days of the duo in the early 80s. In perhaps the best Herbert & Schnipsi sketch ever, "New Year's Eve", romantic ideas of New Year's Eve at a hut meet the reality of Herbert & Schnipsi, in which too much simply goes wrong. In the "afterlife", the son of a civil servant, Mr. Wimmer, becomes acquainted with the random principle of "rebirth". And during the "funeral eulogy" it becomes clear that in a sibling relationship nothing becomes statute-barred. The numbers combine a high point density with touching moments. The played characters are never really evil, they are simply human. But it's not only the sketches that really heat up. Also with the songs a cross section was chosen, which can be seen. Hanns Meilhamer sings the soundtracked Bild newspaper article "UFOs - grüne Kugeln", which he had already put on stage while still soloing. Claudia Schlenger shows her whole entertainment repertoire in "I bin besser" in which she covers a life of 80 years in 4 minutes. And with the almost philosophical "Muatter, i bin a Guckuck" the couple also plays the title song of their very first common stage program from 1984, a hymn to individuality and love of freedom. The professional dilettantism, which the couple has practically perfected, is taken to extremes in the grandiose "Des Liad ist schlecht". The songs and sketches are embedded in biographical anecdotes and stories about the time in which they were written and played. Fans as well as newcomers will get their money's worth. Schlenger and Hanns Meilhamer take their audience on a comic and touching journey through time over the last 35 years.
