Niederndorf - Tyrolean village

Niederndorf - the cosy, calm Tyrolian holiday village - is located in the middle of the superb mountainside at the foot of the romantic „Kaiser“ mountain range at 500 m above sea level and is imbedded in a cauldron-shaped widened landscape.

Tips & highlights in Niederndorf

In the village centre of Niederndorf the family Kaltschmid has created a treasure of old and partly already forgotten craftsmanship.

For centuries the working methods of wood carvers have been the same. Craftsmanship, mental imagination and a firm feel for shapes and forms are indispensable requirements for a wood carver. Linden- and Swiss stone pine wood, sometimes also lumbers of walnut and fruit trees belong to the preferred carving material, which is being worked with truncheon and carving iron. Portraits, cribs, bronze sculptures, wells, masks, musicians, animals ecc are being made.

The nearby mountain range of the „Kaiser“ captivates big and small summiteers the whole year around. Or explore the cross-border eco-culture-path! That should bring the visitors closer to the interaction of nature, agriculture and culture of an alpine region which is formed by mountain farming .

The aim is to inspire the understanding for nature and culture, the life form of mountain farmers, the importance of a healthy diet as an increased appreciation and sensibility in the population,  thus bringing a stabilisation of the regional economic power. On several kilometres of length the visitor can experience and discover the typical relation of the border region.

The twelve information boards, which give concrete information and explications, offer additional assistance along the about 5 km long, well signposted path. The whole walk takes about 3 hours – starting point is the alpine diary Hatzenstädt at the Niederndorferberg.

Niederndorf presents itself from its sporty side in the idyllically situated wood-swimming bath with a big adventure slide. Wading pool, children´s pool with streaming and water hedgehog, water slide, water cannon and game stream inspire small water rats.

A play ground is also kept ready. In the swimming- and adventure pool four swimming lanes with a length of 25 m, a massage seat and resting bench, a waterfall shower, a rainbow fountain and a jet stream canal are waiting. Also in the pool for nonswimmers with waterslide and climbing net bordome does not stand a chance. All pools are filled with „Grander“-water.

Furthermore there are beach volleyball courts, a sports field for roll hockey, street soccer, basketball as well as a ground for ball games like football, handball, hockey and volleyball. Certainly there is also being catered for the physical well-being - namely at the attached restaurant „Mary´s Eabachtreff“.

This chapel  at the Hechenberg which was built in 1178 with a registry extension from the year 1818 reminds of the successful defence of hostile attacks. Wax figures of saints, precious votive images, baroque wroughtiron bars and the „Löffler“ bell from 1557 are the witnesses of former centuries worth seeing and hearing. The chapel can be reached within 30 walking minutes via a wood path accompanied by stations of the Cross.
