Not only the fortress but also many other historical buildings and monuments dominate the town:
In 1205 it was at first mentioned as castrum Kufstein. The panorama lift „Kaiser Maximilian“ takes you directly from the town centre up to the fortress.
The newly renovated museum of the fortress and the museum of local history, an interactive installation , gives an insight into the history of Kufstein and its surroundings. The „Tanzkunst in Bronze“ is a permanent exhibition - of the renowned sculptress Meta Metting von Ellenberger.
The „Heldenorgel“ (organ) is with its 4.307 pipes and with 46 register the largest open-air organ in the world. Since 1931 the organ has been situated in the „Bürgerturm“ of the fortress, the console is located 80 m lower in the „Festungsneuhof“. Daily at 12.00 noon the sound of the „Heldenorgel“ is to be heard all over the town.
Further attractions are, for example: the old corridor through the rock of the fortress, the deep well, the herb garden, the archaeological exhibition…The new roofing of the impressive arena of the fortress caters for an untroubled cultural enjoyment in any kind of weather.
The attraction is called „adventure of the senses“, which allows the visitor of the Riedel glass company to experience very closely the art of glass making. In the joined „SINNfonie“, an orchestration of sensory perceptions and art experience, the visitor is being visually and acustically abducted in the world of the Riedel philosophy.
In the historic town centre of Kufstein you will find remnants of the fascinating history everywhere. Really speicial is the Römerhofgasse with its traditional buildings. There you will also find the monument of Karl Ganzer, the composer of the world renowned Kufstein song.
A museum was dedicated to the inventor of the sewing machine, Josef Georg Madersperger (born 1786 in Kufstein, died 1850 in Vienna). The audio-visual show reports about the life and the works of J. Madersperger. The birthplace of Josef Madersperger is situated in the Kinkstraße.
